It’s the end of an era for one of Marvel’s beloved groups of characters (and the villains who try to bring them down). Guardians of the Galaxy, (GOTG), Vol. 3 premiered in theaters on May 5 and quickly became the number one movie at the box office with an expected gross of $110M during the opening weekend.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the official synopsis for GOTG Vol. 3 reads “Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.”
Fans first met the Guardians on screen in 2014 with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. In 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered, and throughout the years the misfits of heroes who always seem to save the galaxy appeared in other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), such as Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor: Love And Thunder (2022), and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022).
